Summer Camp may have taken on a new meaning since the good ol’ days, but S’Camp ’16 brought out the childish wonderment that’s still inside all of us festival goers. From activities like dodge-ball and tug-of-war, to late night DJ sets, Summer Camp took the traditional festival routine to a nostalgic place that most others overlook.
Mother Nature made a special guest appearance bringing a spectacular light display that, unfortunately, cut short performances by The Roots and Manic Focus while MOE. stayed the course and embraced the electricity that was certainly felt by all in attendance. Ending out the headlining spots with nothing less than a legendary set, Big Grizmatik set the standard for what a “Super Group” should be by taking the funk to a whole new level with Mr. George Clinton in a perfect melody of old and new with an EDM version of his timeless classic “We Want the Funk”.
It’s hard to say what exactly it is about Summer Camp that captures our hearts so decisively; maybe its the usual sensation of love and oneness that we all chase in the summer season, or perhaps its the fact that crowd sizes ensure that you’re never in fright about missing the chance to see your most anticipated act in person rather than on the giant screens accompanying the majority of big performances, or could it be the sensation that everybody you meet seems like you’ve been friends for life? All we can really be sure of is that we’ll see each other again at Summer Camp ’17.
